Intelligent Vehicle Safety Systems Awards Presented

Intelligent vehicle safety systems were in the spotlight yesterday in Stockholm, as the European Commission on Information Society and Media presented awards to six individuals and organizations at the World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems

Award-winners were:

  • Auto De Graef GmbH, Fiat car dealer based in Köln, Germany, for its pro-activeness in promoting eSafety.
  • Renault Spain for its eSafety advertising efforts and for being the first car manufacturer to make electronic stability control standard in the C segment car model in Spain.
  • German Road Safety Council for the great achievements of the "Bester Beifahrer" campaign about the benefits of car safety technologies.
  • Daimler AG, for the key role the company has played in bringing to the market technologies and systems which are proven to enhance traffic safety, such as ABS (1978), electronic stability program (ESP_ (1995) or in 2000 the first Lane Keeping Assist system for Trucks. More recently, Daimler developed the PRE-SAFE concept, which consists of protective measures activation before a crash.
  • Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Water Management, for the promotion and use of intelligent safety systems on the Dutch roads, as well as their contribution to the development of ITS systems at European level.
  • André Vits received the lifetime achievement award for his promotion of ICT-based applications for mobility.
