According to a story yesterday in Saigon -- the news outlet of the Vietnam Communist Party in Ho Chi Minh City -- Vietnam Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on Saturday spoke at the official launch of a government Web portal, stating that "The party and state consider information technology and communication one of the important means of science and technology and a key economic sector to implement Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), build an information society and speed up the national industrialization and modernization." The portal -- in both English and Vietnamese -- has been four years in development and in 2008, received 10,000 news and articles, more than 2,000 photos, 3,000 legal documents and over 2,000 government documents, according to the article.
