According to Paul Taylor's blog, FastGov, former Washington state CIO Gary Robinson is returning to his old stomping grounds, this time as chief financial officer for the Department and Social and Health Services (DSHS). Paul Taylor is the chief strategy officer of the Center for Digital Government.

Robinson, who also served as vice president of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) retired from public service in December 2008. Robinson held a number of positions in Washington state government, including both assistant director and deputy director of the Office of Financial Management.

Hired on as CIO in 2005 by Gov. Chris Gregoire, Robinson served as the director of the Washington State Department of Information Services, the state's de facto CIO. Slated to become NASCIO president in 2010, Robinson nevertheless retired and was replaced by interim director Jim Albert, who had been serving as deputy director. Los Angeles Unified School District CIO Tony Tortorice in turn replaced Albert on July 1.

Calls to the DSHS for comments were not immediately returned.
