Running household appliances off an electric vehicle's batteries during peak demand or a power outage is a concept explored earlier this year in a paper: The Simulation of Vehicle-to-Home Systems -- Using Electric Vehicle Battery Storage to Smooth Domestic Electricity Demand. The paper simulated the exchange of electrical power between the electrical grid, household appliances and vehicle batteries. It also compared Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) systems, saying that V2H is a simple first step toward a mass V2G system. Tech On, an industry newsletter, today said that Mitsubishi's PX-MiEV plug-in hybrid vehicle -- on display at the Tokyo Motor Show -- is designed for V2H applications in a smart-grid environment.
