NY Waterway has installed a global positioning system and a toll-free phone number so ferry and sightseeing cruise passengers will know exactly where to wait for a free bus to get to the West 39th Street Ferry Terminal in Manhattan and when the next bus is coming, according to a company release. Using a cellular-based GPS system designed by Saucon Technologies Inc. of Bethlehem, Pa., NY Waterway bus dispatchers and customer services representatives know exactly where each of the 40 company busses are located in Manhattan. The technology allows dispatchers to redirect buses as traffic conditions and/or customer demand change. Passengers can call 877-53-BUSES (800 532-8737) to find the nearest bus stop and the time until the next bus arrives.
