Five Westchester County Cities Create Terrorism Management Plans

Dec 18, 2003, By Miriam Jones, Chief Copy Editor

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- The cities of Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, White Plains and Yonkers are developing terrorism management plans that facilitate a coordinated response to emergencies resulting from weapons of mass destruction (WMD) terrorism.

General Physics Corporation (GP) will review existing emergency plans for the five cities and develop terrorism management annexes (plans) in collaboration with the county and city stakeholders. During the second phase of the project, GP will design, develop and conduct an integrated exercise involving representative senior-level stakeholders from the five cities and Westchester County. The exercise will test aspects of the terrorism plans requiring coordination of resources and response activities across the jurisdictional boundaries of the cities and county, as well as coordination with New York state and federal agencies.

The company's services are designed around helping emergency response organizations plan for incidents, respond adequately to an event and mitigate the short- and long-term consequences of an event. Planning and preparing entails evaluating policies, procedures and plans for inclusion of provisions for WMD threats; assessing the availability of supplies and equipment; and conducting WMD awareness and operations training, and team drills and exercises for employees.
