Travel Light
Toshiba's Portégé S100 notebook weighs 4.38 lbs., measures less than one inch thick and features a 14.1-inch display. The device comes with a 1.73 GHz processor, 256 MB standard DDR2 533 MHz memory (2 GB maximum), and a 40 GB hard drive. The DVD/CD-RW plays DVDs and burns CDs. The SelectBay lets users swap the standard CD burner with alternate storage options: a second hard drive or DVD burner. The notebook offers high-speed wireless LAN (802.11b/g) and up to three hours 27 minutes of battery life using a six-cell battery. A high-capacity 12-cell battery is also available.

Stay Connected
Socket Communications' SDIO 56K modem card with V.92 and V.90 technology is designed for various pocket PCs when Wi-Fi or cellular coverage is not available. The V.92 uses higher data-compression ratios, which increases data throughput speed. The Quick Connect feature shortens the time it takes to make a connection by remembering phone line characteristics and storing them for later use. The modem signals the PDA whenever incoming calls arrive and allows users to answer without dropping the Internet connection. With caller ID, users can see who is calling while still connected.

Protected Memory
The Memory Experts International Outbacker USB hard drive provides 20 GB and 40 GB of storage. The 3 x 5-inch device utilizes biometric (fingerprint) and 128-bit AES encryption. For further security, biometric templates and passwords are saved on silicon, not the hard drive media. Additionally all password and biometric matching is performed on the Outbacker. There is no transfer of security templates from the device to the host PC. The Outback allows up to five users, using two fingerprints for each.

Enhanced Viewing
ViewSonic's 19-inch VX924 LCD anti-glare monitor is designed to save desktop space. It offers 1280 x 1024 resolution 270-nit brightness and 550:1 contrast ratio for rich, detailed images. The monitor supports both digital and analog signals for flexible configuration. Up to 160-degree viewing angles horizontally and vertically provide enhanced image viewability from all directions. Users can make screen adjustments via an on-screen menu. The 4 ms video response enables digital HD, broadcast-quality full-motion video. The device is PC- and Mac-compatible.
