In his State of the County address late last month, Westchester County Executive Andrew J. Spano discussed digital resources and initiatives for law enforcement and public safety.

"When it comes to Internet security, said Spano, "there seems to be a new scam, virus or method of identity theft that sprouts up daily ... the groundbreaking legislation I signed last week makes Westchester the first in the nation to require businesses to secure their wireless networks to help prevent identity theft." Spano went on to say the county's Department of Public Safety will soon have an accredited Digital Evidence Investigations Unit, and the county's Criminal Justice Data Warehouse -- containing over one million records -- is shared by 14 law enforcement agencies. In addition, Spano said the county's new DNA lab will be completed next year, and its Bio Defense Lab will expand to counter new threats to public health.
