The undersea Internet cables reported severed on January 31st have been repaired, according to Flag Telecom.
The first cable which ran between Alexandria, Egypt and Palermo, Italy was restored a day ahead of schedule on Saturday, February 9th. Repairs on the second cable which ran between Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Al Seeb, Oman were completed Sunday, February10th.
The cable cuts caused severe Internet disruption across much of the Middle East and Asia. Flag reported that a large anchor weighing 5 metric tons (5.5 U.S. tons) severed the cable running from Dubai to Al Seeb. The cut in the Mediterranean is still being investigated.
