Sam Orth has been named the CIO of Ohio, according to the National Association of Chief Information Officers.

Orth began serving as the state's interim CIO in October 2008 after Steve Edmonson resigned the CIO post after less than two years on the job. Orth was formerly the state's manager of enterprise IT architecture and standards.

Since Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland took office in 2007, the Ohio Office of Information Technology has embarked on several new programs, including the Connect Ohio initiative to improve broadband service to state and local government, and the public.
