Miami-Dade County, Fla., Manager George M. Burgess named Donald M. Fleming to head the County's Enterprise Technology Services Department.

In his new role, Fleming is responsible for all joint information services and technology for Miami-Dade County. Fleming, who holds a Ph.D. in nuclear physics from the University of Massachusetts, has more than two decades of experience in both the public and private sectors.

"Dr. Fleming brings a wealth of experience to Miami-Dade," said Burgess. "His professional career includes not only extensive experience heading information technology systems for top companies in the U.S., but he has also worked in government."

Burgess said the new director is uniquely qualified to lead the County's ongoing efforts to utilize new technologies in providing more efficient and effective service delivery to Miami-Dade residents.

Most recently, Fleming served as the Chief Information Officer for the State of Oregon. His distinguished career also includes serving as Chief Information Officer for Brookhaven National Lab and EG&G, Inc., and management positions with General Electric Corporation and the Standard Oil Company.

Fleming said he looks forward to joining Miami-Dade and leading a department.

"I am thrilled to join the Miami-Dade County team," Fleming said. "My priority will be to identify ways the County can use smart information technology solutions to improve how it serves more than two million customers."
