Troubled HealthCare.gov Gets Management Change

Kurt DelBene, former president of Microsoft's Office Division, will replace Jeff Zients on HealthCare.gov.

Today, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius announced that Kurt DelBene will replace Jeff Zients to lead and manage the troubled HealthCare.gov project, effective Wednesday Dec. 18.

DelBene retired this month as president of Microsoft's Office Division, and his wife is U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene, who was also a former Microsoft executive.

Sebelius said his experience in heading large complex technology teams will be an asset on HealthCare.gov, the management of which will be in consultation with CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner and in partnership with QSSI, the general contractor, said Sebelius.

"I am committed to providing and directing the additional resources needed for this project," said Sebelius in a release. "We are all very excited to have Kurt DelBene on board as we work to make our mission a reality: accessible, quality, affordable health coverage for every American who needs it."
