Hacker Puts 'Peculiar' Message on Brunswick, Md., Website

Although the city administrator could not recall the exact wording of the message on Brunswick’s website, Bob McGrory said the message reported to be on the fair’s website when it was attacked reminded him of what he saw on Brunswick’s site.

Someone hacked into the Brunswick, Md., website, left a “peculiar” message and made the site inaccessible, according to Bob McGrory, city administrator.

The city of Brunswick and The Great Frederick Fair experienced similar website problems Thursday.

Although he could not recall the exact wording of the message on Brunswick’s website, McGrory said the message reported to be on the fair’s website when it was attacked reminded him of what he saw on Brunswick’s site. “Hacked By Tunisian Fallaga Team/Cybert Jihadist” appeared on the fair website.

“That sounds very similar to my recollection of what I saw,” McGrory wrote in email. “However, I was only on the site briefly as there was some sort of music playing and I chose to close the browser.”

Disturbing images that he did not describe flashed across the screen.

The “error” messages that blocked anyone from accessing brunswickmd.gov and the fair site late Thursday afternoon were not the original messages.

The incident was not being investigated as a crime, McGrory said, but it could be if some harm or expense could be attributed to the hacking.

The city’s Web developer worked on Brunswick’s site during the day, McGrory said. It was accessible again by about 5 p.m.
