New St. Louis Website Offers Place for New Ideas, Feedback for Officials

The website seems like a hybrid of existing sites like Nextdoor.com and Rally St. Louis.

Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed on Thursday announced a city community information website named PropelSTL.org, in an attempt to give residents another platform to "collaborate with community decision-makers."

"The site gives residents a platform," Reed said. "It provides a new opportunity for government and citizens to work together by connecting civic challenges to community problem-solvers."

The website allows people to give feedback or propose new ideas. One of the first topics asks residents for input on the idea of a $150 million to nearly $200 million bond issue for city infrastructure

The website seems like a hybrid of existing sites like Nextdoor.com, where Reed also has a heavy presence, and Rally St. Louis.

Politicians have increasingly worked to build unique platforms on the internet to reach residents in new ways.

Mayor Francis Slay recently relaunched his political website, MayorSlay.com, which includes feature-style articles on various institutions and issues in St. Louis. He has kept his long-standing "mini poll," which asks residents to vote on things like the city's best fish fry.
