Abstract:
Is application security as strong as the security for hardware and networks?
No, it’s not. Hardware and network security have had longer to mature and come into general practice. To some extent, we have great deadbolts on the front door and we have latches and chains. But the door actually has a window in it, and the bad guys are going to go through it. They’re going to break the window and open the door, and the window essentially is the application. And the deadbolts, like firewalls, aren’t going to help if you can just punch through the window.
