Services for a Thriving Community

March 1, 2011 Sponsored by Cisco

Northern Ohio deploys innovative solutions for government services to help the region realize its goal of re-shaping the economy.

Summary:

Northern Ohio is transforming its economy to go beyond its manufacturing roots to a new 21st-century economy that includes health care, technology, safety and education. Drastically changing an entire economic landscape takes commitment and for northern Ohio, this meant revamping its IT infrastructure to help attract and retain these new industries.

To help facilitate this transition, Cisco — along with OneCommunity, a nonprofit devoted to supporting technology initiatives in northern Ohio — is working with Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga County and the city of Akron to provide IT infrastructure that supports public safety and citizen services. This digital infrastructure helps develop local government in northern Ohio and will make the region more attractive for privatesector companies to start businesses.

“When you look at the solutions we’re applying, they’re going to improve economic development and employment, and it makes people feel better about the community they live in,” said Dave Lieberth, deputy mayor of Akron.
