E-Discovery Solutions for Government: Ensuring information is tracked and readily available

By the Center for Digital Government

Both the public and private sectors have been making the transition to digital for several decades, but the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) weren’t changed until 2006 to include the concept of “electronically stored information” within the context of civil litigation. This means the rules of reporting are playing catch-up to the reality of digital information, and conversely, that many organizations are not prepared to look back, historically, to their digital records and provide information and reporting when they are required to do so. This issue brief discusses how e-discovery software can be a solution to government reporting problems. E-discovery software provides agencies with a comprehensive and reliable data set covering a broad range of chronological data, compiled at reasonable cost, and that is easily accessible at any time.
