Washington State has earned two Public Sector Innovation Council awards from Cisco Systems, Inc., for being one of the most innovative public sector customers that best "maximizes the use of Internet business solutions to compete in the Internet economy."
"This is great news," said Gov. Gary Locke in a press release. "Using the Internet to deliver a faster, better service at lower cost to the people of Washington is exciting. We are pleased that Cisco chose to recognize our progress."
Washingtons Intergovernmental Network, which connects state agencies and county and city governments electronically, is owned and operated by the
Department of Information Services and was presented the two awards at a recent ceremony in New York City. Along with DIS, the states Department of Revenue was also spotlighted for its electronic tax filing service.
Other winners honored by Cisco for Internet business solutions included New York Citys NYC Link portal, Wake County, N.C.s, Relocation and Property-related applications, the California Department of Justice, Florida Department of Management Services, and Louisiana Department of Social Services.
