Government Technology

Equity & Integrity

Public Schools in West Virginia are national leaders in several key areas of education technology, according to Education Weeks annual Technology Counts report. Among the states achievements are its ongoing investments in the Basic Skills Computer Education (BS/CE) program for elementary schools and the expansion of technology into middle and high school curricula through Gov. Cecil Underwoods SUCCESS program.

"The Education Week survey demonstrates that we are doing the right things right in West Virginia," said Underwood. "We have built a bold, progressive program for today and tomorrow by expanding our investment in classroom computer use in several ways."

In addition to introducing the SUCCESS program, Underwood also won legislative approval to fund upgraded equipment and software for the BS/CE program. He also increased funding for technology demonstration grants that encourage innovative classroom instruction.
