With cloud applications becoming mainstream, many companies are facing a new kind of integration challenge. Departmental owners of cloud-based applications now have to learn a few lessons that their counterparts in IT have known for a long time. Applications operate as part of a larger IT landscape, not a vacuum. For applications to be useful, they need data. And at least some of that data already exists in other systems, whether in the cloud or on premises.
