The Future of IT in State and Local Government

Every year, the Center for Digital Government (CDG) seeks to capture the latest technologies and trends impacting state and local government in its annual thought leadership paper. The 2015 paper hones in on an issue that is top of mind for many government leaders: As the pace of government modernization quickens, how do agencies continue to innovate and become more IT-centric in their operations while at the same time contending with a slow economic recovery and rising demands from their constituents? The paper helps answer this fundamental question by highlighting the challenges, opportunities and best practices that are emerging as the role of IT changes within government. It discusses how agencies, departments and offices within states and localities have more choices than ever before when it comes to automating their business operations. Finally, by highlighting successful accounts of governments embracing this change head on, it shows that those who learn how to operate within this new environment will come out winners and help further the transformation of government.
