An eclectic group of public officials gathered Monday in La Quinta, Calif., for re:public XII, the Center for Digital Government’s annual leadership retreat. Attendees included around 100 CIOs, elected officials, innovation officers and others from jurisdictions across the country. Monday’s meeting content focused on individuals who have spurred change. Speakers included gold medal Olympic track star Edwin Moses, who helped spearhead drug testing for track and field athletes; Jay Altman, whose nonprofit FirstLine Schools has been fundamental in efforts to improve schools in New Orleans; and Chad Pregracke, founder of Living Lands & Waters, a group that has pulled more than 7 million pounds of junk from the nation’s rivers over the past 16 years.
