9 Mississippi Fiber Communities Announced

Mississippi-based C Spire rolls out its fiber to the home network, starting with nine cities and towns around the state.

Nine cities and towns were announced as the first to receive gigabit fiber-to-the-home Internet connectivity in Mississippi, along with service pricing. C Spire Wireless announced Nov. 4 the communities that will be part of the initial Fiber to the Home (FTTH) initiative, which include Batesville, Clinton, Corinth, Hattiesburg, Horn Lake, McComb, Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville. The communities selected were chosen from a pool of 33 applicants.

Those cities and towns were selected for a variety of traits such as demand, existing infrastructure, and location, said Jared Baumann, brand product manager for C Spire. If plotted on a map, the cities and towns chosen represent a wide geographic area, spanning from all four corners of the state.

Finalists were announced at a news conference attended by Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, who proclaimed Nov. 4 as “Get Fiber First” and “Gimme Fiber” day for the state.

According to C Spire, the company has already invested $200 million in fiber infrastructure in the state, with plans to invest another $100 million in the next 18 months as more cities are added to the state’s FTTH network.

Pricing for C Spire Internet connectivity varies depending on which of four packages a customer chooses. Gigabit Internet will be available for $80 per month, gigabit Internet and home phone service will be $100, gigabit Internet and television service will be $140, and Internet, television and phone will be $160. C Spire wireless customers receive a monthly $10 discount off any package.
