Wake County Website Racks Up Another Win

Redesigned site named best large jurisdiction site by government Web group.

Wake County, N.C.’s redesigned website, WakeGOV, continues to garner national and local attention. Since its launch a year ago, WakeGOV has placed in or won every major government website competition it has entered.

The most recent of these accomplishments is a Pinnacle Award, snagged from the National Association of Government Web Professionals (NAGW) at the group’s conference in September. The award acknowledges WakeGOV as the best website in the nation for the large population group, and applauds the site for excellence in features like content, organization, design, performance, flexibility, accessibility standards, and interactivity.

WakeGOV is accessible from a traditional computer or a mobile device, putting the site within reach of any technology user — and people are taking advantage of it. WakeGOV has received 9.4 million site visits and 126.7 million page views in the past year alone. It features a wide range of online services, including the opportunity to view restaurant inspection grades, pay property tax bills, or even search for animals that are available for adoption.

“We are extremely proud of the effort that went into the redesign of WakeGOV.com,” said Wake County CIO Bill Greeves. “Clearly we have one of the best government websites in the country.”

The redesign took around nine months to complete. Greeves says the site’s success stems from the creativity and dedication of the county IT staff and the cooperation of multiple county government departments.
