On Feb. 14, Former San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor acknowledged in federal court that she gambled away millions of dollars -- dollars that her late husband had earmarked for charity, the Los Angeles Times reported. She has agreed to make $2 million in restitutions, and has admitted to having a gambling addiction.

And she doesn't go to jail for this? Incredibile. I guess if you admit your crime you are exempt from any legal ramifications for stealing money from the citizens of San Diego. Gee, I guess I can deal meth and when I get caught just admit that I had cash flow problem from having no job and that will get me off the hook. Wake up America! Time to make these people pay just like ordinary people do. She isn't the first elected official in San Diego to do this.
Unfortunately "white collar" crime in the United States is not taken as seriously as other types of crimes, it seems to be seen as a "victimless crime"?
