What's the average commute time in the United States?

March 7, 2013 By News Staff

Answer: 25.4 minutes

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's latest statistics on nationwide commute times, the average travel time to work in the United States is 25.4 minutes. But actual commute times, of course, vary widely depending on location.

To make that data visual and interactive, WNYC created the Average Commute Times map -- zoom in on areas on the map below, or click "fullscreen" to enter your ZIP code and see how you compare to, say, Tamiment, Pa., where the average commute time is 60.7 minutes, give or take six minutes.
