A team of British engineers is building a car they hope will smash the world land speed record. How fast is the vehicle being designed to go?

May 18, 2011 By

Answer: 1,000mph. The vehicle, known as Project Bloodhound, will derive its speed from a jet engine AND a rocket engine. According to the BBC, RAF fighter pilot Andy Green will take the wheel sometime next year. Above is a rendering of what the vehicle will look like. For more visit http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/

It will come in handy, if ever I'm in Siberia...unfortunately, my speed limits are around 65 mph. How about spending time on a car that doesn't run on petrol?

The commercial applications for a ground-based, dual rocket and jet powered vehicle must be...uh...two or three? Maybe for the opening sequence of a James Bond movie, and, uh...well, I'm sure they have some good ideas of their own.
