Though not elected until 1988, George H.W. Bush nonetheless was the President for just under 8 hours today in 1985. President Reagan had undergone colon surgery and invoked the 25th Amendment, elevating then-Vice President Bush to Acting President of the United States. Bush was the first person to serve as Acting President.
