From energy efficiency to ease of recyclability, a product's greenness is becoming a more important economic component in the IT buying equation. "The spread of Green IT continues as organizations gain a better understanding of the benefits of going green," said Frank Gens, IDC's senior vice president of Research. "Once a distant afterthought, economic advantages, including reductions in operational costs, are driving Green IT adoption."
Additional Survey Findings
* One half of survey respondents claim that "reducing their organization's environmental impact" was important or very important to senior management
* 42% of respondents said that IT will play a lead role or an important role in their organizations' efforts to reduce environmental impact
* One-third of respondents rated an IT supplier's "greenness" as important or very important
* 81% of respondents identify green products' ability to reduce operating costs as the most important reason for considering a supplier's greenness

IDC's U.S. Green IT Survey findings come from IDC's Enterprise Panel. This panel is an online community of IT and line-of-business professionals who influence the technology-related investment decisions of their organization. The panel includes worldwide businesses of all sizes and in all industries. The panel was launched in April 2007 and currently includes 5000 active members. The panel is fully owned and managed by IDC.
