Township Wins Records Management Award

The township of Brick, New Jersey, has been recognized for its success in the integration of streaming video with public records management. To commend their exemplary efforts, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the League of Municipalities have awarded Brick the 2007 Innovation in Governance Award for Records Management in the 21st Century. Mayor Stephen Acropolis will accept the award on the township's behalf today at the New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference in Atlantic City.

In January 2007, Brick Township Council contracted with Granicus to deliver council meeting webcasts as well as to link streaming video with their formal public meeting records -- and related documents such as agendas, minutes, policy or staff reports -- creating a single, unified source for staff and constituents to retrieve information. The township received the award for the comprehensiveness and cost-effectiveness of the solution, providing a public service to constituents at a low cost, while improving government transparency.

"This award is a great honor and an affirmation that our efforts to have open and transparent government are working," said Acropolis.

Granicus enabled Brick to respond to requests for information with greater speed, agility and transparency than ever before. "Using technology to give residents more access to their government is something we are always striving for," said Acropolis. "This administration will continue to look for ways to use new technologies to increase efficiency and improve services for residents which in the long run will save taxpayers money."

The online archive provides a comprehensive online public records retention system, all synchronized, keyword-searchable and conveniently accessible. Brick Township is saving time and money with a fully hosted streaming solution.
