NASCIO Releases Brief on Starting Points for E-Discovery

The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO), which represents the chief information officers (CIOs) of the states, is pleased to announce the release of its research brief The Search is On: State CIO Starting Points for E-Discovery. It is a product of NASCIO's E-Discovery Working Group.

In its September 2007 Issue Brief entitled Seek and Ye Shall Find? State CIOs Must Prepare Now for E-Discovery! NASCIO raised the importance of State CIO involvement in e-discovery and the need for collaborative state electronic records management activities to properly address e-discovery requests. In this follow-up Research Brief, NASCIO provides starting points for State CIOs to improve the state's ability to successfully address legal requests for electronic information.

"Ensuring consistent and reliable responses to e-discovery requests across the state enterprise is a significant task. However, by taking a collaborative approach to the management and release of electronic records, states will be able to efficiently respond to e-discovery requests," said Gary Robinson, State CIO, State of Washington, and Chair of NASCIO's E-Discovery Working Group.
