The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) is holding a free Webinar next week. The "World Congress Technology Demonstrations" Webinar will take place on June 25, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. EDT. The webinar will provide participants with an overview of a demonstration of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communication technologies and services to take place at the 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems. These planned technology demonstrations will be operating on the streets and highways of New York during the 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems November 16-20, 2008.
These technology demonstrations will provide conference attendees with a unique opportunity to experience Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII), a U.S. Department of Transportation initiative that is working toward deployment of an advanced vehicle and roadside communications network that could provide dramatic safety and mobility benefits.
The webinar will be hosted by Patrick McGowan of Telvent Farradyne, who will discuss the demonstrations that will be conducted at three venues at the conference.
VII Test Beds
Two Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) equipped test beds are being developed in and around New York City. These include a 50-mile long freeway test bed on the Long Island Expressway and an arterial test bed loop in Manhattan adjacent to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. These test beds will be used to demonstrate applications such as in-vehicle signing, warnings, traveler information, and e-commerce.
11th Avenue Theater
A five-block section of 11th Avenue will be closed to traffic during the World Congress to allow automakers and organizations to demonstrate applications such as vehicle-to-vehicle based collision avoidance, signal violation warning, and autonomous (driverless) vehicle operations.
Transportation Management Center of the Future
A 3,200 square foot exhibition inside the convention center will showcase the integration of data into the most advanced applications of transportation management center (TMC) systems. This demonstration will illustrate the future of TMCs and how these new cooperative system applications will change the way TMC operators do business in the years ahead.
Webinar participants will also be able to get real-time feedback via the Internet during the presentation and will also be able to ask questions during a closing Q&A session. There is no cost to participate in the webinar, but registration is required.
