New Jersey Gov. Jon S. Corzine today announced the launch of a Web site outlining the allocation of New Jersey's share of economic stimulus funds under the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and the members of a task force to ensure the funds are properly spent.
"Transparency and accountability are of utmost importance in the allocation of these funds, and to ensure they will be spent for their intended purpose: to create jobs, bolster our infrastructure, and assist residents in need," Corzine said. "By giving individuals, businesses and communities access to how these funds are spent and what programs are available, we will optimize this opportunity to quickly emerge from the global recession."
The Web site was created to give the taxpayers of New Jersey the ability to monitor the distribution and spending of federal stimulus dollars, Corzine said. In addition, last week the governor announced the creation of an oversight group, the New Jersey Recovery Accountability Task Force, to review the distribution and award of federal stimulus funds. The task force will be co-chaired by the governor's Chief of Staff Ed McBride and State Comptroller Matt Boxer.
The federal stimulus funds, said Corzine's office in a release, complements the governor's Economic Assistance and Recovery Plan, announced in October during a joint session of the New Jersey Legislature. Since then, the governor has advanced numerous efforts to stimulate New Jersey's economy, create jobs, combat hunger, provide home energy assistance, and take proactive initiatives to prevent home foreclosures.
