Arnold Schwarzenegger

Jun 5, 2009, By Casey Mayville

Transparency -- it's been quite the buzz in the public sector. But recently, California Governor Schwarzenegger is more than just talk; yesterday he signed Executive Order S-08-09 which set a June 12 deadline for agencies to start reporting.

He also launched a new Web site for reporting government spending and audits where state agencies and departments will have to make all financial records public.

"The people have the right to know what they are getting for their money," said Gov. Schwarzenegger. "In times of deep recession, it is more critical than ever that state government operates efficiently and is accountable to the people."

State departments and agencies will be required to report any contract valued at $5,000 or more online. The Web site will also have a list of both internal and external audits of state departments and agencies.
