NASCIO Receives DOJ Grant for State-Level Justice Information Sharing

"This grant will make it possible to continue our work in data architecture, information sharing and the leveraging of the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) across state government." -- Gopal Khanna (pictured)

NASCIO, the National Association of State CIOs, today announced that it received a $250,000 grant from the  U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs, to "support activities and products to advance justice information sharing at the state government level."

"This grant will make it possible to continue our work in data architecture, information sharing and the leveraging of the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) across state government,"said NASCIO President and Minnesota CIO Gopal Khanna in a statement. The awarded grant proposal contains three major objectives for the upcoming program year:

  • Advance information sharing through broader adoption of NIEM.
  • Evaluate state government information sharing capabilities and develop Calls to Action to further advance those capabilities.
  • Maintain an expertise center for states in enterprise architecture providing management guidance and consultation which focus on data architecture and governance.
