Karen Jackson Reappointed Virginia Deputy Secretary of Technology

Jackson formerly was the director of Virginia's Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell reappointed Karen Jackson the administration's Deputy Secretary of Technology on Wednesday, May 19, as the governor continues revamping the state's IT leadership.

Jackson formerly served as the director of the Office of Telework Promotion and Broadband Assistance, where she promoted and encouraged telework alternatives in Virginia's public and private sectors and advised the secretary of technology on broadband-related issues. Jim Duffey is currently the secretary of technology.

Jackson has been engaged in broadband issues contained in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the National Broadband Plan, according to the governor's office.

She was named to Government Technology's 2010 list of the Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers.

Jackson serves on a number of boards, including the Virginia Telehealth Network and the Virginia Health IT Advisory Commission.

McDonnell named Samuel Nixon Virginia's CIO in March.
