How Denver Came Together on Smart City Challenges

Although the city didn’t win the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Smart City Challenge, CIO Scott Cardenas says Denver is committed to moving ahead with its plan.

While Denver did not win the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Smart City Challenge, that doesn’t mean it’s not moving forward with the goals it created. Scott Cardenas, CIO of Denver, said the city’s plans will look similar to what was presented during the competition, and he anticipates that one of the underlying premises of the challenge — collaboration across cities on best practices — will also continue.

At the Colorado Digital Government Summit on Oct. 4, Cardenas told Government Technology about how Denver defines the idea of a smart city and the benefits it found from bringing stakeholders together to discuss the potential benefits and goals.
