  Storm on the Horizon

  December 6, 2007 - On Aug. 17, 2007, Hurricane Dean advanced toward Texas. While the storm didn't make landfall in the state, it gave Texas the chance to test its readiness after months of collaboration and preparation for such a storm. For more, see the related story.

  Celebrating 20 Years of GTC

  December 3, 2007 - e.Republic's Government Technology Conference West celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Sacramento Convention Center. Keynote speakers were Steve Wozniack and Jeff Pogue.




• DARPA Urban Challenge

  November 12, 2007 - The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Urban Challenge program helps create technology to keep soldiers safe. The challenge features autonomous ground vehicles maneuvering in a mock city environment, executing simulated military supply missions. The final competition took place on Nov. 3, 2007, in Victorville, Calif. For more, read the related story.

  Disaster Drill

  October 30, 2007 - Held in conjunction with the Sacramento, Calif., Regional Citizen Corps Council Annual Disaster Preparedness Conference in October was a disaster drill for Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), where they practiced their command structure, evacuation, triage and special-needs populations skills during a mock flood and hospital wing collapse.
