Photo of the Week - Cathedral of the Northern Lights an Architectural Landmark

On Feb. 11, the Crown Princess of Norway inaugurated the Cathedral of the Northern Lights -- a nearly 155-foot-high cathedral that's situated in the Norwegian town of Alta, approximately 310 miles north of the Arctic Circle. 

The significance of the northern lights is reflected in the architecture of the cathedral, which was designed by schmidt hammer lassen architects. During long periods of Arctic winter darkness, the titanium façade reflects the northern lights (click images below to enlarge).
