Next month, the Terrafugia's Transition -- a two-seater aircraft with folding wings that also can drive around town and on highways -- will be on display at the New York International Auto Show.
Test drives won't be available, but the company will demonstrate the vehicle's folding wings and show videos of it in flight and on the road. But seeing the vehicle in these ways might soon become a reality -- the company received an exemption last year from the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration to permit its vehicles on public roads. The vehicle is expected to enter production this year and retail for around $250,000.
The Transition is shown below ready to drive on roads and highways.

Excellent.
Look out George Jetson! Here we come!!
Cool idea, but I wonder how that thing would handle on the road in a high crosswind - it might go flying without the wings deployed.
Looks like pretty huge blind spot on each side!
Those blind spots definitely look pretty bad. I also wonder how it would hold up in crash tests. Guessing not to good. Nice to see we're moving in the right direction, though. Flying cars need to happen at some point.
