A new website called Memories for the Future shows before and after images of many areas in northeastern Japan hit by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, as shown above. Google digitally archived the areas hit hardest and the website makes it easy to switch back and forth between before and after images of the same area.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Google drove more than 27,000 miles through affected areas of Japan to take 360 degree panoramic imagery of the areas that were hardest hit.
