At this year's GTC West, an annual event held by Government Technology's parent company e.Republic Inc. in Sacramento, Calif., international explorer, photographer, author and TV host Josh Bernstein (above) shared, among other things, his 10 rules for thriving in life. "Being a better person," Berstein said, "helps you succeed in life."

His 10 rules for thriving are:

  1. Be efficient
  2. Be opportunistic
  3. Be aware
  4. Be positive
  5. Be engaged
  6. Be respectful
  7. Be realistic
  8. Be determined
  9. Celebrate success
  10. Simplify
