Planes in Phoenix Travel Beneath Bridge
/ March 29, 2011
Usually when flying, it’s what the airplane passes over that interests passengers sitting in window seats. Passengers arriving at Phoenix (PHX) Sky Harbor airport, however, may be astonished to see what their airplane passes under — a bridge.
The bridge is part of the PHX Sky Train and is the only mass transit bridge in the world built over an airport taxiway. At 100 feet tall and 350 feet wide, the bridge can accommodate most commercial airplanes, including the Boeing 747. October 10, 2010 marked the first time a plane passed under the bridge.
