Maine Counties Obstruct Land Database, Says Plaintiff

November 10, 2009 By

A business owner who wants to build a statewide database of Maine's land records went to court to require 13 Maine counties to provide the records, according to an article in the Portland Press Herald/Sunday Telegram. John Simpson of MacImage of Maine LLC, said that he was denied access or the counties stalled on his request even though the state requires public record delivery within five days of the request, unless prohibited by law. Simpson intends to create a unified database of all the land records in Maine's 16 counties, according to the article.
