"Today reaffirms something those of us in Northern, Eastern and Central Maine have known for quite some time: that EMMC is committed to providing high quality care," Baldacci said. "With the 2008 Davies Award, Eastern Maine Medical Center has been singled out as a national leader in using available information technology to improve care for patients in Maine."
"In the end, it is the patients of our region who benefit," said Eric Hartz, MD, EMMC chief medical information officer. In a statement on the hospital's Web site, Hartz said, "We have worked hard for nearly a decade to implement the most advanced computer systems on the market to allow instantaneous sharing of health information among all healthcare providers involved in a patient's care. When the software that was currently available wasn't doing the job we wanted, we challenged our vendors to work with us to build something better. It has been a tremendous collaboration."
