Last month Massachusetts Secretary of Administration and Finance Leslie Kirwan announced her selection of Anne Margulies as Assistant Secretary for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. Margulies begins her duties on Tuesday.
Margulies joins the Patrick administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was the executive director of
OpenCourseWare, a large scale Web-based initiative that provides free, world-wide access to MIT's course materials. There she managed the development of the project from startup into a permanent department at MIT.
From 1988 to 1998, Margulies held information technology positions at Harvard University, serving as assistant provost and executive director for Information Systems in her last three years. Before joining MIT, Margulies was chief operating officer at FH-GPC, a government relations, public affairs and communications consulting firm.
Margulies will also serve as an assistant secretary for Administration and Finance, according to a release, "demonstrating the priority the Patrick administration places on delivering a more efficient and accessible state government to its citizens through a strategically designed and coordinated information technology system that stretches across the state system."
"I'm excited to have Anne join our team," Kirwan said. "I look forward to her steady hand and strategic approach to making decisions."
Margulies received her B.A from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She lives in Weston.
