The Tool-Kit is intended to serve as a resource for CIOs, architects and other IT experts in their efforts to develop and continue to mature their programs in enterprise architecture. They will also be used in new employee orientation and training enterprise architecture (EA) concepts. Version 2.0, the earlier edition of the Tool-Kit addressed EA governance and technology. Version 3.0 covers these two areas in greater detail, but also expands to address areas comprised of business architecture, information architecture, solutions architecture and program management.
"NASCIO is pleased to announce the release of this version of the Tool-Kit. It presents significant additional content and is expected to be an important reference and guidance document for the states as well as other levels of government. NASCIO believes that enterprise architecture is a priority for developing and implementing a blueprint for better government. Enterprise architecture is not a theoretical exercise, rather an operating discipline for the business of government with the ultimate goal being efficient and effective service delivery to citizens," said Tom Jarrett, Delaware state CIO and NASCIO president.
The additional section on business architecture describes the process for linking the business side of government to technology solutions. The section on information architecture covers process and data architecture. Solutions architecture provides guidance for what is to be developed and how it fits into the overall enterprise. Additionally, updates have been made to sections of Version 2.0 in order to establish continuity throughout the Tool-Kit.
