New Mexico Governor Orders IT Consolidation

April 8, 2004 By

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson has signed an executive order requiring state agencies to consolidate all IT personnel under a single office of the agency secretary or director. In addition, services such as e-mail, accounting, data center and network security will be consolidated at the Department of General Services.

The order will move IT classified employees within departments into a single division that reports into the head of that department. The order also, halts all IT hiring, except for mission critical positions, until a consolidation plan is presented to the Governor's Chief of Staff.
