New York State Financial Disclosure Site Adds Public Authority Employee Salary Information

Controversy generated around the issues of access to public information versus privacy of state employees.

SeeThroughNY a controversial Web site that carries public-sector financial data -- including state employee salaries -- announced last week that it has added payroll information on 19 New York public authorities including the MTA and regional transit authorities serving Western and Central New York. The controversy comes from the public's ability to search for specific state employees and pull up their salary amounts. A similar site in California has also generated controversy around the issues of access versus privacy of state employees.
