Report: Louisiana Fixes Transportation Billing Glitch

June 26, 2012 By

An auditor’s report released June 25 revealed that the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s (DOTD) new computer system had errors that resulted in $26 million in unbilled federal expenses.

"We want to clarify no money was lost," said DOTD spokesperson Jodi Conachen. "We have secured all of our revenue and funding sources. We have billed back out to the feds, and they have paid us back."

The audit cited several problems that attributed to the unbilled funds, including coding errors. Secretary Sherri LeBas disagreed with the characterization of the audit and said the new computer system was a success because it replaced an old system that was at risk for failure. Improvements to the new system will continue in coming years, LeBas wrote in her response to the audit.
